We spent the day in Downtown Wilmington and each one of us had a great big scoop of ice cream in a waffle cone! Not very good for my diet, but great for my taste buds! Of course, Ana loved it. I do monitor everything she eats, but every once in a while I let her indulge. She wanted to know why I control everything (including her food). Which I admit I do, and my response was in a form of a question. I asked her, "if it was up to you, wouldn't you choose to eat sweets all day"? Her reply was a resounding...YES! Then I said, that's why I monitor everything you eat, and then I proceeded to tell her the perils of diabetes and child obesity. Her eyes grew large and she got very quiet as she stared at her big, rich, chocolaty, cone of ice cream. Now, I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of hate mail telling me how I'm creating a future anorexic or bulimic. Please don't! If there is one thing I know about is nutrition - and the causes of anorexia and bulimia. I have had to deal with it myself for many years and I have done lot's of research on the subject. Save your hate mail for another post:) I'm sure it is soon to come...

A very beautiful and sweet day!

No hate mail from me! Someone who hasn't had to deal with ex-orphans and their learned behaviors, just one of which is lack of self-control/self-discipline, doesn't understand at all. I have to do the same thing with my girls. The one who has been with us for two years now is starting to get it!:) The other one, who has gained a whole lot of weight, will say she is on a diet, then asks for cookies and candy:0
You are explaining why you do things the way you to do Ana. That's not the same as just being strict without a reason. She may not understand now all the way, but one day she will.
She knows you're doing this for her own good. Believe it or not, even though she may not let you know, you are really giving her security. You're doing a great job from what I can see!
